Help a parentless child, restore a generation and unlock the future.
On September 28th, 2018, Father’s House took part in a gathering of public organisations on Sofia Square to perform a flash mob. The aim of the event was to draw support for orphans and children deprived of parental care, many of whom took part in the flash mob under the supervision of Father’s House and other organisations.
The event ‘Adoption is Love’ was a celebration of the annual Day of Adoption on 30th September and took place in several regions of Ukraine simultaneously. In accordance with Presidential Decree No. 1088/2008, the Day of Adoption is celebrated on the day of commemoration of the Christian Saints of Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia.
According to the UK Convention on the Rights of the Child, adoption is recognised as a priority for the upbringing of a child in the event of the loss of a parent or parental care. Between 2008 and 2017, 27 035 orphans and children deprived of parental care were adopted in Ukraine, with 18 748 being taken into the care of Ukrainian families.
In recent years, we have seen particularly positive results in the adoption of children into family groups, and the adoption of children with disabilities. We are encouraged by the prospect that Ukrainian families are actively making the decision to adopt a child or children.
According to information provided by child services, 70-85% of adoptive families prefer to adopt a child between the ages of 0 and 6, without brothers or sisters, and without any health difficulties. Part of our mission is to spread the message that every child, regardless of age, background or health, has the right to experience the love and care of a family. ‘Adoption is Love’ was successful in promoting a positive experience of adoption and showing new potential families that to act as a caregiver to a child in need is one of the greatest gifts to humanity that can be given.
